Prescribers Push to Keep Their Names Off Labels for Abortion Medication
Briefly

In response to restrictive abortion laws, especially post-Roe v. Wade, doctors are advocating for the anonymization of prescription labels for abortion pills to protect patient privacy. The increase in telehealth abortions, particularly in states with protective 'shield laws', has allowed patients in states with bans to still access the necessary medications. As the legal landscape becomes increasingly polarized, these protective measures aim to ensure safe access to reproductive care across the country, even as states adopt contrasting policies on abortion.
Now, doctors are working to anonymize that process by pushing to hide the name of the prescriber from the labels of mifepristone and misoprostol - the two drugs used in medication abortions.
We are seeing two very different worlds right now in the United States in terms of the directions of laws and policies,
Patients have continued to receive abortion pills in states with near-total bans, so much so that the number of abortions has actually increased since the fall of Roe v. Wade.
One in 5 abortions are now done through telehealth, according to the Society of Family Planning, and about half of those are for people getting care because of shield laws.
