Proceeds of 'elaborate' alleged romance fraud against woman were used to buy Cork home, High Court hears
"The proceeds of an alleged "elaborate" romance fraud perpetrated against a vulnerable woman were used to purchase a Co Cork property, the High Court has heard."
"Lawyers for the Criminal Assets Bureau (Cab) made the claims in seeking an order declaring that Thomas Humphreys' house on Strand St, Youghal, Co Cork was purchased in July 2015 for €25,000 using the proceeds of crime. The order is sought under section 3 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 1996."
An alleged elaborate romance fraud targeted a vulnerable woman, with the proceeds used to buy a property in County Cork. Lawyers for the Criminal Assets Bureau say Thomas Humphreys' house on Strand Street, Youghal, was purchased in July 2015 for €25,000 using those proceeds. The bureau seeks a court declaration under section 3 of the Proceeds of Crime Act 1996 to recover the property. The claim was advanced in the High Court, where CAB lawyers applied for the order to have the house declared as having been purchased with criminal proceeds.
