Communities pool resources for fire departments, police, building inspection, public health, and a social safety net to prevent destitution and address illness. Governments also finance national defense and public education for societal benefit. Investments in public health enable safe drinking water across most towns. Most citizens accept varying levels of public resource allocation for these shared needs.
