Sligo Rovers is set to receive €6m under the Ireland Immigrant Investor Programme. The funding is in addition to €16.4m already committed for redevelopment of the Showgrounds. The €6m will support development works tied to a new stadium planned for the Showgrounds, with total stadium costs of €23.4m. The project is expected to create a modern regional sporting and events facility, increasing visitor numbers and delivering community and social benefits. The stadium is planned for completion in 2028 and is intended to help Sligo Rovers continue as a community-owned soccer beacon. The Showgrounds redevelopment aims to create a UEFA Category C venue with over 6,000 seats.
"Sligo Rovers submitted a business plan for €6 million worth of development works at Sligo Showgrounds in February 2023. "These works form part of the new stadium planned for the Showgrounds which will cost €23.4 million. "The €6 million in philanthropic donations under the IIP is a vital part of the overall funding package for the stadium."
"This stadium development is a hugely important project for Sligo and the north-west region and will see the creation of a modern regional sporting and events facility which will benefit our local economy through increased visitor numbers and bringing huge community and social benefits. "I have no doubt that it will help our community owned Sligo Rovers continue to be a beacon for soccer in our region, providing talented men and women, boys and girls, with the opportunity to perform in world class facilities."
"Back in 2024 the 'bit of red' was successful in securing €16.4 million grant from the government's Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) and €376,270 from the Community Sports Facility Fund to completely redevelop The Showgrounds. The total redevelopment is set to transform the stadium into a UEFA Category C venue with over 6,000 seats."
"The stadium is planned for completion in 2028, and it will be a fitting project to mark the centenary of Sligo Rovers in two years' time."
