Lyon to fight incomprehensible demotion from Ligue 1 - Soccer News
Briefly

Lyon announced they will appeal their demotion from Ligue 1 to Ligue 2, deeming the decision by the DNCG as 'incomprehensible.' Despite efforts to manage debts estimated at €500 million, including selling key players and a stake in Crystal Palace, the DNCG ruled that the club's financial strategies were insufficient. Following a statement, Lyon emphasized their collaboration with the DNCG and underscored improvements in their cash position, asserting they possess adequate resources for the upcoming season, alongside successful recent sporting performances warranting European competition qualifications.
In recent months, we have worked closely with the DNCG, satisfying all of its requests with cash equity investments exceeding the amounts requested. Thanks to the equity contributions of our shareholders and the sale of Crystal Palace, our cash position has improved significantly, and we have more than sufficient resources for the 2025-26 season.
Olympique Lyonnais acknowledges the incomprehensible decision rendered by the DNCG tonight and confirms that it will immediately file an appeal. With so much cash liquidity demonstrated, and sporting success which has earned European competition in two consecutive years, we sincerely do not understand how one can conclude that the club should be demoted.
