Ambitious 'skywalk' vision for Boyne Viaduct gains momentum in Drogheda
A motion seeks Louth County Council support for a landmark pedestrian and cycle bridge adjoining the Boyne Viaduct in Drogheda, along with a feasibility study. The proposed skywalk would reduce congestion on both sides of the river and provide an active travel link to the train station. It would connect medieval Drogheda with the planned Boyne Greenway and strengthen the town’s “Destination Town” tourism experience. The project is supported by councillors and championed by the Drogheda Cycling Alliance. The Boyne Viaduct is described as a major asset with panoramic views across the town, the River Boyne, and beyond. Design concepts include a cantilever-style walkway suspended from the existing structure.

"Plans for a striking new “skywalk” bridge alongside Drogheda's iconic Boyne Viaduct have taken a significant step forward, as councillors voiced strong support for an ambitious proposal that could transform the town's skyline and tourism offering. The proposal also sought the launch of a feasibility study, with a motion calling on Louth County Council to support construction of a landmark pedestrian and cycle bridge adjoining the historic viaduct."
"A presentation to councillors outlined potential design concepts inspired by similar projects across Europe. Among them is a dramatic cantilever-style walkway - suspended from the existing structure - simila"
