Oasis fan death prompts Wembley safety review
"Although I am not an expert, this suggests that there needs to be some steps taken to make this area safe. He said it should examine their design, height and placement on level five of the stadium, where Claydon fell, and assess whether the area provides a safe environment for people attending events."
"The report should include a risk assessment and state whether any modifications have been made since installation, the court heard. It was ordered after a letter, understood to have been written by a former Wembley employee, raised concerns about safety measures."
Lee Claydon, a 45-year-old landscape gardener, died after falling at Wembley Stadium during an Oasis concert on 2 August 2025. Senior coroner Andrew Walker ordered a comprehensive report examining the design, height, and placement of barriers on level five where the incident occurred. The investigation was prompted by a letter from a former Wembley employee raising safety concerns. The report must assess whether the area provides a safe environment, include risk assessments, and document any modifications made since installation. The letter was disclosed to Brent Council, Claydon's family, the Metropolitan Police, and the Football Association. The inquest was adjourned until 29 April for a further pre-inquest review hearing.
