Fauja Singh, the world's oldest marathon runner and a torchbearer at the 2012 London Olympics, died in a hit-and-run at age 114 in Punjab, India. Born in 1911, he set numerous world age-group records in Toronto at an invitational meet in 2011. Singh became the first centenarian to complete a marathon, finishing the Toronto Waterfront Marathon in 8 hours, 11 minutes, and 6 seconds, despite Guinness World Records not recognizing his achievement due to the absence of a birth certificate. He moved to London in 1992 and took up running to cope with personal loss.
