Barking and Dagenham Council is advocating for step-free access at Dagenham East tube station, citing a substantial increase in usage and local development. A petition has been launched, backed by local businesses, as they push for this long-desired change. Despite over a billion pounds of investment in the area and an increase in passenger numbers, station usage remains below pre-pandemic levels. Cllr Dominic Twomey has expressed hope for Transport for London (TfL) support, highlighting that this upgrade would signify the area's transformation and ongoing investment, while also proposing a c2c stop at the station.
The council has launched a local petition and currently has support from local businesses for the case to make the station fully accessible.
Cllr Dominic Twomey emphasized that step-free access would reflect the significant changes in the area and hopes for TfL support.
