The second of four tunneling machines, TBM Caroline, successfully concluded its 5-mile excavation in the Northolt Tunnel, part of the HS2 project, which aims to enhance train travel between London and the West Midlands. Caroline, named after astronomer Caroline Herschel, excavated over 1.2 million tonnes of earth and installed 4,217 tunnel rings. This project involves a joint venture between Skanska, Costain, and STRABAG, aiming to complete five deep, twin-bore tunnels, with significant milestones expected in 2025 as more machines complete their journeys.
