Lumo is set to launch a new rail service from Stirling to Euston next year, featuring five refurbished Class 222 Meridian trains under a £50 million deal with Alstom. The refurbishment includes upgrading seating, improving passenger Wi-Fi, and aligning the trains with Lumo's branding. This effort, supported by a £40 million Train Services Agreement and a £10 million modernisation programme, will create jobs and utilize advanced technologies to enhance fuel efficiency. Lumo's new service will benefit various towns, marking historic direct links to London for some stations.
The modernisation of the five six-car Class 222 Meridian units includes new seating, upgraded passenger Wi-Fi, and a full exterior repaint to align with Lumo's branding.
Alstom's maintenance contract will support 50 roles across its Central Rivers and Widnes sites, demonstrating its commitment to boosting local employment in the UK.
The Lumo service will include four return services a day to London, enhancing connectivity to regions like Motherwell, Lockerbie and Cumbernauld.
With the introduction of Intelligent Engine Start-Stop technology, Lumo aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions across its fleet.
