'Vital' Barking rail footbridge to be reinstated after man's fall
Briefly

A new pedestrian footbridge is slated for construction in Barking's Kennedy Road after the previous bridge was closed due to a serious safety incident in 2022. This new structure, made of steel and featuring stepped access, will commence work in late July and is expected to be completed in autumn. While construction progresses, lane closures will occur, but pedestrian access will be maintained. Network Rail’s route director stressed the importance of the bridge for local connectivity and thanked the community for their patience during this period.
The new footbridge will restore vital access for pedestrians across the rail network, following a serious incident that led to the closure of the previous bridge.
Katie Frost emphasized the commitment to delivering a safe replacement bridge with minimal disruption, acknowledging the challenges the community faced during the closure.
