Wandsworth joins TfL's e-scooter rental trial, becoming the 11th council to do so. The trial, running since June 2021, has seen over five million journeys with around seven percent reported as replacing car trips. The total area for the initiative has expanded to nearly 300 km², accommodating 1,300 parking bays. Safety has improved significantly, with a very low injury rate and no fatalities reported. Authorized scooters are legally permitted on public roads, promoting safe riding practices and sustainable transport alternatives.
Wandsworth has become the 11th borough to join TfL's e-scooter rental trial, which has also reported that 7% of journeys have replaced car trips.
Since launching in June 2021, more than five million journeys have been made, taking the trial area to around 300 km² with 1,300 parking bays.
TfL's trial has recorded a serious injury rate of just 0.0004% alongside improvements in safety, eliminating fatalities so far during the trial period.
London's Walking & Cycling Commissioner noted the rental e-scooter trial promotes sustainable transport, with compliance over 94% in parking rules among users.
