Anthrax To Release First Album in 10 Years in September
"No, it doesn't come out in May. We're putting out our first song and video in May. The record is not coming out till September. We pushed it back a little bit. We just had to do a couple of other things to it. It's coming out in September, but the first song and video will be out in May."
"We thought we were just gonna take off for Christmas and New Year's at '19 going into '20 and then get back together in '20 and make a record. And then, of course, the world had other plans for everybody. So it wasn't until some point later in '21 that that started picking up again."
Anthrax announced their upcoming album will release in September, marking their longest gap between records at 10 years. Drummer Charlie Benante clarified that while the first song and video premiere in May, the full album arrives later. The delay from an originally planned May release was necessary for additional work on the record. COVID-19 significantly impacted the band's timeline, with guitarist Scott Ian explaining that recording plans were disrupted when the pandemic began in 2020. Producer Jay Ruston returns to helm the project, having worked on their previous two albums. The band has already performed portions of new material during recent tour dates.
