Gus Mehrkam, an 18-year-old graduate, leads the shoegaze band Midrift, which will perform at the Outside Lands festival. The band, founded in 2022, consists of Mehrkam and the Neukermans brothers, aged 21 and 17. They have gained considerable traction, accumulating tens of millions of streams on Spotify. Midrift's sound is intense and reminiscent of influential bands like Deftones. The group previously performed at smaller venues, building a fanbase that eagerly responded at their festival debut. Their youthful energy is evident as they engage the audience, creating memorable moments on stage.
When the trio locks in together, the drums, bass and guitar crush the listener with the same slow intensity as in the best Deftones songs.
