It is trance-like': pianist Igor Levit performs Erik Satie's Vexations 840 times
Briefly

Igor Levit faced a daunting challenge as he began a marathon concert at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, playing Erik Satie's Vexations an extraordinary 840 times over 16 hours. Despite the apparent panic, Levit approached the performance with humor and calm. The event, a collaboration with artist Marina Abramovic, attracted a significant audience, with 92% of tickets for the duration sold. This performance is notable as it's believed to be the first instance where Satie's piece is played entirely by a single pianist live in the UK, adding to its historic significance.
It is thought to be the first time the piece will be played in its entirety by the same person live in the UK.
Written in 1893 for keyboard, Vexations is between one and two minutes long when played once.
A South Bank spokesperson said 92% of durational tickets had been sold and tickets were still available for the hourly evening slots.
Jacob Povey...said as he waited for doors to open. It's such a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
