Kentucky woman saves 2-year-old son buried in rubble following deadly tornado
Briefly

The EF-4 tornado that struck London, Kentucky, on May 16 caught many residents, including Tara Hollifield, unprepared, leading to harrowing moments. An internet outage prevented her from receiving crucial tornado warnings, leaving her to hear the storm's ominous sounds without any prior alerts. After the tornado demolished their home, Hollifield located her 23-month-old son, Parker, by following his cries. Despite sustaining injuries herself, Parker has mostly returned to normal, demonstrating the resilience of both mother and child. The community has rallied around those affected, providing crucial support during the ongoing cleanup efforts.
Hollifield lived her worst nightmare when the tornado hit their home, and she couldn't find her son. 'I didn't know if he was dead or alive,' she said.
Nocturnal tornadoes, such as the London tornado, can be more deadly because they hit when people are least prepared.
Thankfully, he was crying, and that's how I was able to find him by listening, following his cry.
The cleanup in Laurel County continues, with support from neighbors and around the country. 'They've been amazing,' Hollifield said.
