The Austin-based band Lord Buffalo has canceled its European tour after drummer Yamal Said was detained at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Said, a Mexican citizen and lawful permanent resident, was forcibly removed from the flight on May 12. Despite securing legal representation, he remains detained. The tour was set to promote their album 'Holus Bolus' and was planned to include shows across several European countries. Support act Orsak:Oslo has expressed solidarity, condemning the detention as unjust.
Last year, in an interview with VoyageAustin, the drummer said that his family moved to Austin in the late '80s, after a devastating earthquake hit Mexico City.
According to his bandmates, Yamal Said is a Mexican citizen and lawful permanent resident of the United States (green card holder), currently detained by CBP.
Orsak:Oslo wrote, 'No one should be pulled off a plane and jailed for simply trying to travel and make art with their band.'
Yamal Said's arrest comes as more people have had difficulties entering and exiting the United States under the Trump administration.
