New riverside passage adds stylised Thames in colourful community artwork
Briefly

Globe View Walkway, opened in 2023, allows pedestrians to walk the riverside of the Thames in the City of London. The walkway features five large artwork panels created by local students and community members. The artwork reflects London's history through themes of past, present, and future. Aldgate Primary School students created backgrounds influenced by mudlarking, while Haggerston Community School students designed poly-print buildings. The panels depict a stylized Thames with wildlife and architectural features, including a purple Shard and swans, along with accompanying poems.
The aim is to create a series of artworks that span the past, present and future of London - the Thames Made Modern.
Five large panels in total, each showing a stylised vision of the natural Thames and the urban landscape around it.
The backgrounds were created by Y6 children at the Aldgate Primary School inspired by mudlarking sessions on the river shoreline.
The Shard skyscraper is now a purple spike, which might not be a bad idea for the real building.
