A newly released Tube map celebrates London's vibrant grassroots music scene, mapping out music venues, record shops, and historical sites connected to iconic musicians. Each Tube line represents various music aspects: the Jubilee line displays local albums, the Metropolitan line shows indie labels, and the District line lists must-see artists for 2025. This initiative, part of the London Creates MUSIC campaign, seeks to promote and support venues that have struggled economically in recent years, emphasizing their importance to both culture and the London economy, which gained £313 million from these venues alone last year.
Sir Sadiq Khan stated: "Londonâs grassroots music scene is renowned around the world. From providing opportunities for talented aspiring artists to develop their trade, to giving Londoners a great night out, our venues are an essential part of our life at night and provide a huge boost to our economy."
The new Grassroots Music Tube map creatively showcases various aspects of London's music scene, including record shops, nightclubs, and historic locations associated with musical legends.
Statistics from City Hall reveal that there are 179 grassroots music venues in London, which welcomed over 4.2 million audience members last year and contributed 313 million to the economy.
The campaign, spearheaded by Mayor Sadiq Khan, aims to support the under-threat grassroots music venues that are integral to Londonâs cultural and economic vitality.
