Old tradition of dancing at the crossroads alive and well in Cork community
Open-air crossroads dancing will resume at Laharn Cross, Lombardstown, Mallow on Sunday, May 31, 2026. Traditional Irish music and dance will run every Sunday night during the summer months from 8pm to 10pm at the crossroads on the foot of Baelic Mountain. Dancers will gather on a raised timber platform to dance to live music from well-known traditional dancing circuit entertainers, including Denis, Christy & Marino Sound, Peter Lane & Blackwater Sound, Ger Healy “The Singing Jarvey,” Eddie Lee, and others. The evening will feature waltzes, quicksteps, foxtrots, polkas, Shoe the Donkey, and the Siege of Ennis. Admission is free, and donations support live bands and facility upkeep. If weather is unfavourable, dancing moves indoors to Laharn Heritage Centre about one kilometre away.
