Festival Opera continues to engage East Bay communities with its Salon Series, featuring two upcoming programs at the Piedmont Center for the Arts. The series allows audiences to experience acclaimed Bay Area singers up close, enhancing artist-audience interactions. The first program, American Song Cycles, showcases soprano Carrie Hennessey and pianist Daniel Lockert. The subsequent program, Bel Canto Forever, features general director Zachary Gordin, contralto Sara Couden, and soprano Shawnette Sulker. This intimate setting allows for emotional connection and direct communication without the distance of larger venues.
The Salon Series is an incredible opportunity to witness some of the Bay Area's finest singers live and up-close, providing enthusiastic, sensational interactions.
The specific 19th century bel canto repertoire wasn't chosen for the venue itself, but the intimacy provides a chance to feel what we're singing without a layer of removal.
The communication flows directly to the audience in a way it does not in a 3,000-seat concert hall, allowing for special energy.
Bellini's Casta Diva from Norma is a beautiful aria with an essential story, performed by Sulker in the intimate setting.
