Westside Cowboy announce debut LP 'It Goes On,' share "Kick Stones (The Boys)"
Westside Cowboy, a Manchester band, has announced its debut full-length album It Goes On, released August 21 via Island. The album was produced by Loren Humphrey and is intended to feel immediate, concise, and honest, reflecting the work that originally inspired the band. The band describes the project as young music made by young(ish) people, focused on lean and imperfect songs. The first single and opening track, “Kick Stones (The Boys),” draws inspiration from a live recording of The Velvet Underground’s “What Goes On.” Aoife Anson O’Connell and Paddy Murphy describe the goal of capturing the energy without sounding like a stadium rock band, and the track’s playful ’70s rock influence. A video was made in collaboration with FC United of Manchester, and European tour dates follow.
"Put simply, we wanted to make an album for our younger selves, one that reminds us of all the bodies of work that made us fall in love with music. We wanted the music to be instant, concise, and honest to us as people today. There will be plenty of time in the future for the sprawling triple album with horns and string sections but for now, it's young music made by some young(ish) people. We want to make songs that are lean and imperfect. We're really proud of it and we hope that you enjoy it."
"We always thought, if we can pull this off it could be really fun. Taking this mad '70s rock thing but then having it played by a bunch of scrawny kids."
"The first single and opening track is the instantly appealing "Kick Stones (The Boys)," which was inspired by a live recording of The Velvet Underground's "What Goes On." Watch the video, which was made in collaboration with local football club FC United of Manchester, below."
