70 firefighters tackling fire on south London's Electric Avenue

A significant fire occurred in Brixton, south London, attracting around 70 firefighters and ten fire engines. The blaze reportedly began in a storage area behind shops on Electric Avenue. While firefighters managed to largely extinguish the fire in the storage unit, it spread to nearby buildings, necessitating ongoing efforts to contain it. Brixton tube station was temporarily closed as a safety measure, with police cordoning off the area to restrict public access while emergency crews worked.
Some 70 firefighters were called to a south London fire as a large plume of smoke could be seen billowing over a shopping street. Ten fire engines attended the blaze on Electric Avenue, Brixton, which appears to have started in a storage area behind the busy shopping street.
Although the fire in the storage unit was largely extinguished on Monday morning, the fire spread to a building and firefighters continue to work to extinguish this part of the fire.
Brixton tube station was temporarily closed as a result of the fire. Metropolitan police officers were at the scene, preventing people from accessing the street with a line of police tape.
Firefighters could be seen heading in and out of several shops on Electric Avenue, trying to access a back area where the fire started. A large plume of smoke could be seen rising above the buildings on Monday morning.
