Jazz Cafe is set to transform the historic Rex Theatre in Stratford, London, into a new venue called Jazz Cafe East. The Rex has a rich history, having served as a theatre and cinema before becoming a bingo hall and nightclub. With this development, the Colombo Group aims to enhance Stratford's cultural landscape, backed by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project complements other cultural initiatives in the area, including an east London museum by the V&A, and is expected to significantly benefit the local economy by attracting visitors and artists.
Newham described the plans for the new Jazz Cafe venue as a huge economic boost of confidence in the area, hoping it will help transform Stratford into London's newest cultural hub.
The art deco Rex Theatre, which has been empty for over two years, is set to be revitalized into Jazz Cafe East, enriching the local music scene.
