Residents near the Tesco Gorey car park in Ramstown, Co. Wexford reported boy racer vehicles gathering and causing annoyance and disturbance. Garda attended and carried out high visibility patrols with the Roads Policing Unit. Officers engaged with vehicle owners, explained the complaints, and asked individuals to leave. During vehicle inspections, most cars were found roadworthy, but one vehicle was identified as dangerous and defective because a section of the wheel arch was making contact with the tyre. The car was detained and seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act and is scheduled for a PSV inspection. Garda also reminded motorists to declare any vehicle modifications to their insurance company promptly, warning that failure to do so can invalidate coverage and lead to cancellation or refused claims.
"Following complaints of "boy racer" behaviour at a supermarket car park in Gorey, Co. Wexford, a vehicle has been seized after being identified as dangerous and defective. The vehicle's seizure comes after residents living in proximity to the car park at Tesco Gorey in Ramstown, recently made complaints of what they described as "boy racer" vehicles gathering in the car park outside the supermarket and causing annoyance and disturbance."
"Members of the policing unit engaged with the owners of a number of vehicles present at the time, where they explained the nature of complaints from residents and requested the individuals to leave the area. While speaking with the individuals, gardaí conducted an inspection of vehicles present where majority were found to be roadworthy. However, they discovered one vehicle was deemed dangerous and defective."
"This was due to a section of the wheel arch which was making contact with the tyre. The car was detained and seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act and is due to undergo a PSV (Public Service Vehicle) inspection. Gardaí reminded motorists to inform their insurance company before or immediately after carrying out any modifications to their vehicle."
""Failing to declare even minor modifications can invalidate your insurance policy, lead to claims being refused, or result in the policy being cancelled entirely," a spokesperson said."
