Copenhagen is probing into eight potential new metro lines, which include a projected Øresund Metro linking the city to Malmö. This investigation follows a preliminary analysis by Metroselskabet, aiming to bolster the city's public transport framework and aligns with recent expansions in the metro system. The detailed analyses will address passenger forecasts, traffic impacts, and overall socio-economic factors, with findings anticipated in the autumn. The initiative underscores Copenhagen's commitment to sustainable urban transport, maintaining its reputation as a leader in cycling and eco-friendly policies.
"The metro is the backbone of Copenhagen's development, but new metro lines are large and complex projects. Therefore, it makes sense to already look at which lines can better connect the city in the future," said Copenhagen's Lord Mayor Lars Weiss.
In recent years, Copenhagen has significantly expanded its metro system, reflecting the city's commitment to enhancing public transportation and reducing carbon emissions.
