Council leader outraged' by Toby Carvery felling ancient oak without permission
Briefly

Enfield Council's leader condemned the felling of a centuries-old oak tree near a Toby Carvery, asserting it was healthy and mismanaged by the pub owners. After the incident on April 3, the council is pursuing legal advice while the police ruled it a civil matter despite evidence of the tree's well-being. Council leader Ergin Erbil emphasized the ecological importance of the tree and accused Toby Carvery of violating lease terms. The council intends to seek justice for what they consider a significant cultural and ecological loss.
I am outraged that the leaseholder has cut down this beautiful ancient oak tree without seeking any permissions or advice from Enfield Council. We have evidence that this tree was alive and starting to grow new Spring leaves when this action was taken.
The tree was the oldest one on site and cutting it down seems to be a clear breach of this condition. This tree would have been home to countless wildlife, fungi, and pollinators. This tree is a part of our ecological and cultural heritage.
