Fly-tipping clampdown sees fines double in Brent
Briefly

Brent council reported a substantial increase in fly-tipping fines, more than doubling in the past year and conducting over 5,700 enforcement actions. Nationally, fly-tipping incidents rose by 6%, exceeding one million in England. To combat this, Brent has initiated Community Skip Days providing free rubbish disposal in each ward three times yearly. Council members aim to facilitate waste disposal accessibility, contrasting their charges for bulky goods with those in neighboring boroughs. Additionally, Brent is collaborating with Peddle Me Wheels to repair abandoned bicycles.
As a result, fines also increased by over 100,000 over the same period as part of its clampdown on illegal waste dumping, the local authority said.
Brent council has been holding what it calls Community Skip Days, which aim to remove barriers by offering "community skips" that visit every ward three times a year.
Residents can dispose of rubbish for free, aiming to reduce fly-tipping incidents by providing accessible waste disposal options.
Brent, like many boroughs, charges residents to dispose of bulky goods - currently priced at 55 for a collection of up to five items.
