Gardaí in Louth warned drivers to reduce speed over the Bank Holiday weekend and not to speed with children in the vehicle. Speed checks on the M1 detected a driver travelling at 192 km/h with two young children in the back, and another driver travelling at 111 km/h in a 60 km zone with a six-year-old. Both drivers were arrested and charged, with one facing a District Court appearance for dangerous driving. Gardaí also seized eight scooters during a crackdown, including one ridden by a 10-year-old, and noted that it is illegal for anyone under 16 to drive an e-scooter on roads. Gardaí in County Meath warned of a fraudulent texting message demanding payment for a fixed charge notice speeding fine, urging people to ignore it and not share bank or financial details. Gardaí in the North East planned checkpoints to target speeding and drink or drug driving.
"Speed checks on the M1 detected the driver of this car at ridiculous speed placing the public in danger. To make matters worse the driver had their two young children in the back putting them in danger also. The driver was arrested and charged."
"The DundalkRPU detected a driver on the Inner Relief Road recently at a speed of 111km in a 60 zone. To make matters so much worse was when Gardai spotted the driver's six-year-old child in the back. The driver was arrested for Dangerous Driving and will appear in the District Court in the near future."
"The Gardai say this is a fraud message sent by criminals and the Gardai would never contact the public in this way seeking payment of a fine. The public are urged to ignore these messages, do not respond, and do not give the sender any of your bank/financial details."
"It is illegal for anyone 16 years of young to drive an E scooter on the roads. The Gardai also seized eight scooters many belonging to teenagers in a crackdown in the north of the county including one being ridden by a 10 year old child."
