In response to the Grenfell fire tragedy, London is making strides to remove flammable cladding from tall buildings. Sir Sadiq Khan announced a new remediation partnership board aimed at implementing the Government's £1 billion commitment to enhance fire safety. Currently, over 1,500 buildings await remediation, prompting the board to prioritize safety measures. The goal is to ensure that by 2029, all residential buildings over 11m will either undergo remediation or face severe penalties. Despite prior Government delays, this initiative marks a significant shift in addressing cladding hazards.
This is a significant step forward in speeding up the removal of dangerous cladding in London, which had been far too slow under the previous Government.
The aim is to ensure that, by the end of 2029, all residential buildings over 11m in height with unsafe cladding will either have been remediated.
