The Local Community Fostering partnership formed in May 2024 aims to address the significant shortage of foster placements across Havering, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest councils. With 1,100 children in care and only 520 placements available, the initiative has generated over 1,000 enquiries from potential foster carers. A collaborative approach includes a 'single-front-door' system for inquiries, enabling consistent support. Celebrated during Foster Care Fortnight, the initiative highlights the vital work of foster carers and the urgent need for more contributions to ensure vulnerable children receive the care they require.
Foster care is crucial for children who cannot be safely cared for by their families, and as local authorities, we have a duty to ensure they are safe, cared for, and supported.
Since May 2024, the Local Community Fostering partnership has received more than 1,000 enquiries from people interested in fostering, highlighting community interest and support.
The partnership formed a 'single-front-door' system for enquiries, providing consistent, knowledgeable support for prospective foster carers, which has been praised for its warmth and clarity.
We are desperately still in need of more foster carers. It was a pleasure to see the Local Community Fostering team and partners work collaboratively.
