Police make arrests at Palestine Action ban protests
Briefly

Police arrested over 100 protesters in London supporting the recently proscribed group Palestine Action. The demonstration at Parliament Square featured placards stating 'I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.' Following the group’s ban in July under the Terrorism Act, a significant police presence was deployed, with warnings of arrests for supporters. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan cautioned about the seriousness of showing support for Palestine Action. More than 200 people have faced arrests across the country since the ban.
The government proscribed the Palestine Action group in July under the Terrorism Act of 2000, making membership of or support for the group a criminal offence.
In the hours before the protest, the Metropolitan Police had issued a statement saying: 'Anyone showing support for the group can expect to be arrested.'
Footage from the square showed officers moving among the protesters, who were mainly seated on the ground, and speaking to them before leading them away.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan warned ahead of Saturday's protest that 'anyone showing support for Palestine Action can expect to be arrested'.
