The Metropolitan Police are considering constructing a full-size replica of Grenfell Tower to aid in criminal prosecutions related to the devastating fire that claimed 72 lives. Families of the victims are skeptical, questioning the efficacy of such measures amid a prolonged and complex investigation that highlights systemic failures in housing safety. A police chief emphasized the necessity of the model for jury understanding, although its construction and potential use have yet to be finalized. The situation follows intense public scrutiny and pain for grieving relatives since the tragic 2017 disaster.
The trust is broken in the Met Police and the systems. Now they want to build a tower and on and on it goes. The Grenfell Tower fire was the culmination of decades of failure by central government and the construction industry.
Det Supt Moncrieff stated, 'This investigation has taken so long primarily because it is so complex. If there are future criminal trials, then those trials will take place before juries.'
