Proud Corkman to maintain nine-decade link with Eucharistic procession
Cork will mark the 100th Eucharistic procession on June 7 with Pat Bradley, aged 88, attending as a continuation of a personal tradition spanning over nine decades. Bradley first attended as a child, walking from Ballinlough Church to the city centre with family friend Jack Leahy, then joined his Confirmation class in 1950. For the next 50 years, he marched to the cathedral with his Cork scout group, during a period when scouts often formed a large part of the procession. The centenary marks the first procession through Cork city streets and reflects a post-conflict effort to heal divisions after the War of Independence and Civil War. Special events include the arrival of relics of Saint Carlo Acutis, a two-week diocesan mission with young people and a Canadian team, and special blessings for major city events such as the Cork City Marathon and Leaving Cert exams.
"Cork will mark its 100th Eucharistic procession with one man in attendance who first walked in the event in 1946. Pat Bradley is now 88 and will attend this year's event on June 7 to maintain a personal tradition stretching back over nine decades."
