Pubs in England and Wales allowed to stay open later for VE Day anniversary
Briefly

In recognition of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, UK Prime Minister announced that pubs in England and Wales can remain open until 1am on May 9 to facilitate late-night celebrations. Planned activities include a military procession, an RAF flypast, and the lighting of beacons nationwide. This initiative is designed to honor the sacrifices made during WWII and bolster the hospitality sector, which has faced challenges. Key political figures emphasize unity and remembrance as essential elements of the commemorations.
As we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the whole country should come together to remember the incredible sacrifices made by the wartime generation.
Keeping our pubs open for longer will give people the opportunity to join in celebrations and raise a glass to all of the men and women who served.
At such a challenging time for the hospitality sector, allowing businesses to extend their trading hours during these celebrations offers a much-needed boost.
The VE Day commemorations will start on Monday 5 May with the Cenotaph in London dressed in union flags, a military procession, and RAF flypast.
