Senior Met officer sacked for second time after refusing 2020 drugs test
Briefly

Commander Julian Bennett, a senior officer of the Metropolitan police, has been dismissed for refusing to provide a urine sample for a drugs test. Initially sacked in October 2023, he appealed and had the dismissal overturned. However, after a new misconduct hearing, he was again found guilty of gross misconduct and subsequently dismissed. Concerns have been raised regarding the lengthy suspension, which lasted almost five years, and the misuse of public funds during this period. Bennett now faces being added to the barred list by the College of Policing.
I am enormously concerned that almost five years since this incident happened we have only now been able to dismiss Commander Bennett. This should have been a simple matter.
Commander Bennett has never disputed he refused a lawful order to take a drugs test. As a senior officer...he made a choice not to cooperate.
