Spray it again! Louth council urged to ramp up power-hosing of Drogheda streets
Local councillors called for daily power-hosing of Drogheda’s main streets to maintain cleanliness and improve the town’s image ahead of the busy summer period. Recent power-hosing on West Street was praised for making a real impact, and the standard of appearance was described as something to sustain. Removal of scaffolding and building materials from James Street and Pitcher Hill Steps was welcomed, with a request to resurface the steps as part of ongoing improvements. Repainting bollards and general maintenance on West Street were also highlighted. The Mayor said more frequent cleaning is required, noting other towns and cities deploy street-cleaning crews regularly and that increased footfall will bring more visitors.
"“West Street is looking fabulous, it's great to see people out in the town centre enjoying themselves,” he said, noting that recent power-hosing works had made “a real impact” on cleanliness. “That's the standard we want to maintain,” he added. “I know it is not always easy, it is a challenge, particularly at weekends. Hopefully we are getting buy-in from business owners as well on that.”"
