Luke Taylor MP condemned Thames Water's handling of emergency works in Southwark that disrupted transportation and left residents without communication. Complaints arose after emergency maintenance led to bus services being diverted, leaving residents stranded. The situation was exacerbated by a 35% bill increase for customers. Taylor's argument highlighted Thames Water's reliance on outdated infrastructure and ad-hoc fixes without planning, reflecting a broader issue of mismanagement in essential services. The Liberal Democrats are pushing for better coordination and communication between Thames Water, TfL, and the local council.
When I think about the performance of Thames Water, I imagine the very excrement it fails to manage. Thames Water's problems come from its failure to update its outdated, mostly Victorian infrastructure.
Residents have been rightly furious at Thames Water's egregious disruptions, and their joint failure with TfL to communicate in good time about disruptions happening in their area.
