Theatre closure a 'catastrophic loss to actors'

The Seven Dials Playhouse, a historic West End theatre, has closed, marking a catastrophic loss for the acting industry. Originally a training house, it transitioned to a receiving theatre in 2021. Despite efforts to stabilize operations, the theatre was liquidated within 18 months after being sold for £3.6 million. Thirteen staff members will lose their jobs, and the theatre owes contractors significant amounts. The director of The New Actors Centre expressed deep sadness and anger over the loss of a vital community space for actors and artists.

"Kate Maravan, director of The New Actors Centre, stated that the loss of the Seven Dials Playhouse is devastating because it was more than just a building. She expressed anger at the loss of this massive asset built up for the charity over decades and hopes those responsible are held accountable."
