Thousands raised for Lewisham charities through recycling scheme at crematorium
Briefly

With funds raised through the Recycling of Metals Scheme at Hither Green crematorium, Lewisham has donated to three local charities: SANDS, St Christopher's Children's Hospice, and Citizens Advice Lewisham. The scheme recycles medical items after cremation, using the proceeds to aid charities that support families dealing with terminal illness and bereavement. Councillor Olaru-Holmes expressed pride in participating, while SANDS emphasized the importance of this support for providing essential bereavement services. Over the past decade, Lewisham Council has raised over £170,000 for end-of-life care initiatives through this program.
Thanks to all at Lewisham Council for your generosity. Your support means we can continue to provide bereavement support services to local families, including our befriending services, for those who are going through some of the most challenging times of their lives. We rely on donations to help make sure we can keep our services accessible and free.
We’re honoured to participate in the ICCM metal recycling scheme, allowing us to support three incredible local charities. These organisations provide crucial care and assistance to our community during some of life's most challenging moments.
