Thousands sign post office petition as MP says he'll keep fighting for fair deal
Briefly

The Post Office is divesting 108 of its crown branches, with many facing potential closure or transfer to other businesses. This includes 36 branches in London, sparking outcry from local communities, particularly in Barnet where petitions have surged in support of preserving local services. Chipping Barnet MP Dan Tomlinson emphasized the need for a strong post office presence in the community to support local needs. The initiative aims to enhance postmaster remuneration and achieve significant savings, contributing to a long-term solution for the post office's sustainability.
Petitions were launched by Barnet's Labour Group to save both the Chipping Barnet branch and Golders Green post office. In an update on the Barnet petition, which has grown from 351 to 2,585 signatures.
Chipping Barnet MP Dan Tomlinson said: The news about Barnet post office was a shock to many constituents. I have made it clear that we must keep a substantial post office presence on Barnet High Street for the needs of our communities.
By franchising these branches, we are protecting access to our services for communities right across the UK and realizing £40 million worth of savings.
