'We have never seen it as bad' - Tramore Tidy Towns clear up beach rubbish in heat wave
Tramore Tidy Towns received reports of heavy litter on a top beach in Ireland during a heatwave. Volunteers responded on Monday and removed large amounts of rubbish, including towels, empty beer bottles, full vodka bottles, socks, and underwear, in addition to normal litter. The group said the beach is now spotless and that the level of mess was worse than last year’s heatwave. Members of the public called for wardens to issue on-the-spot fines and urged people to take all rubbish home. Several sightings described families and teenagers leaving chip bags, drinks, wrappers, and plastic bottles behind, with others picking up litter at the car park. Littering can be reported to the council in confidence with a photo attached.
"“We got 42 towels, 12 boxes of empty beer bottles, one full box of Vodka bottles, 32 pairs of socks, 21 underwear, that's not including the normal litter. "We have never seen it as bad. Last year we had a heatwave and still didn't see what we witnessed this evening. Please, please help us keep our beach clean. A few local people also helped with a litter pick before we came, thank you.”"
"“Should have wardens on the beach who can give them on the spot fines, if they're caught leaving rubbish behind.”"
"“If you bring it to the beach, you take it home with you including your rubbish.”"
"“A man nearby picked it all up. Behind me a group of teenagers left large chip bags, Lucozade, wrappers from carry packs and plastic bottles. I myself picked up rubbish at the car park.”"
