Wexford enthusiasts enjoy Lau Gar training weekend
The Wexford Kung Fu and Kickboxing Centre hosted the annual Lau Gar Ireland weekend seminar at Image Health Studios. Members from across Ireland attended three days of martial arts training and black sash gradings. Instruction covered a packed agenda of Kung Fu and combat training led by Lau Gar International Guardians and instructors from Ireland and the UK. Tai Chi and Qigong classes were also included. Participants of all ages and grades took part in multiple modules, with the children’s class drawing strong enthusiasm. Overall participation reached the highest level in the event’s over 40-year history. The next seminar will be special as the club marks 50 years in Wexford, with plans already underway for commemorative activities.
"The Wexford Kung Fu and Kickboxing Centre hosted the annual Lau Gar Ireland weekend seminar at their premises in Image Health Studios recently. Members from around Ireland attended the three-day event of training and black sash gradings. The agenda was packed with a variety of martial arts topics with instruction from Lau Gar International Guardians, Bobby O'Neill (Wexford), Peter Hornby (Stafford, UK), Derek Dawson (Drogheda), Frankie Cooper (London), and Master John Russell (Birmingham)."
"As well as Kung Fu and combat training there were also classes in Tai Chi and Qigong. All ages and grades were represented in the various modules over the weekend with the childrens' class being a great hit with the enthusiastic participants. In fact, overall participation was the highest in the over 40-year history of the event. It was a tough but very enjoyable weekend of hard work with lots of knowledge shared and gained."
""It was great to see the traditional art of Kung Fu getting such enthusiastic support from the very young right up the age spectrum, with Master Russell himself approaching 80 but still active and very agile. "His work ethic and dedication is an inspiration to all the members.""
"Next year's event will be very special as the club will be celebrating 50 years in Wexford. Plans are already under way for various activities to commemorate the organisation's many achievements over half a century. The Wexford Kung Fu and Kickboxing Centre trains in Image Health Studios, Westpoint Business Park, Clonard, and new members are always welcome."
