Newham hits milestone in electric vehicle charging point roll-out
Briefly

Newham Council, partnering with Uber and Believ, has achieved a significant milestone by installing 500 electric vehicle (EV) charging points. The initiative supports the council's Climate Emergency Action Plan, targeting carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. Plans are in place to expand to 1,000 charging points by April 2026 and 3,000 by 2030. Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz highlighted the existing popularity of these points, noting that many residents, lacking private driveways, rely on public charging. The scheme also promotes electric vehicle adoption among local Uber drivers.
Rokhsana Fiaz OBE, Mayor of Newham, emphasized the increasing popularity of EV charging points, stating, 'We want to see a lot more of them across the borough.'
