Ilunga, a native Angeleno and former Hollywood Farmers Market curator, dreamed of opening her store in Northeast Los Angeles and built momentum behind the idea. She says her original landlords, Baller Mineral LLC, approached her about opening a business and financed the buildout for her superette on the corner of North Avenue 50 and Monte Vista Street. She also received a $250,000 grant from Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)'s patient capital initiative Asset Building for Communities of Color.
Los Angeles' infamous Trash House, previously freed of debris and detritus, is once again covered in garbage. A year after residents in the Fairfax District complained about piles of trash at a home on Martel Avenue, it has once again started to pile up at the so-called Trash House, KTLA reported. The brown, Spanish-style stucco home at 617 North Martel Avenue has been a lightning rod of criticism from neighbors for more than a year.

Brusdar Graterol has proven to be an invaluable member of the Dodgers bullpen since making his debut in 2020 as a 21-year-old. For parts of five seasons, "Bazooka" has compiled a terrific 2.69 ERA - allowing only 147 hits and nine homers in 181 innings pitched. The movement on his pitches are elite (as is his stuff). Graterol's ability to remain calm under pressure made him a favorite high-leverage selection for the coaching staff during the postseason.
One player who might be earning a professional tryout (PTO) deal somewhere in the NHL is Klim Kostin, who supposedly has had conversations with the Kings at this point. In a recent interview, Kostin confirmed his interest in joining the Edmonton Oilers again, considering how well he fit with them in his previous stint, but confirmed the Kings have reached out to him. The way he worded it made it sound like they had made an offer, but that's not confirmed just yet.
The Angels selected catcher Sebastian Rivero onto the big league roster, notes Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register. Rivero is starting tonight and hitting eighth against Twins righty Simeon Woods Richardson. Logan O'Hoppe heads to the seven-day concussion injured list after being hit on a backswing by A's infielder Jacob Wilson yesterday. Rivero was not on the 40-man roster, so the Halos will need to announce another move before game time. More to come.

The preschool and community center-a $3 million renovation project which just held an opening celebration in early August and will begin operations in early September-fills a void in most homeless housing and service centers. Services for children and families remain very hard to come by, preventing many single parents and families that are unhoused from transitioning to a more stable and secure housing situation. The Betty Bazaar Center is the first state-licensed childcare center to open adjacent to homeless housing.
You come up here and you get in the atmosphere of the game, you get in the atmosphere of the clubhouse, the mindset of competition, plan and direction of a championship, and things like that. Timing is different in that environment than it is in any other environment. So I feel pretty good with it all. I feel healthy.
