On Tuesday morning, ICE agents conducted a raid at a Home Depot in Pomona, detaining around 15 to 20 workers seeking employment. L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis directed the Office of Immigrant Affairs to support those affected, emphasizing that all residents should know their constitutional rights. A laborer who avoided detention expressed the emotional toll of witnessing the raid, highlighting their humanity in the struggle for survival. Community organizations condemned the raid, asserting that seeking work is not a crime and urging vigilance against immigration enforcement actions.
In response, I immediately directed the Los Angeles County Office of Immigrant Affairs to connect with the Pomona Day Labor Center to ensure those impacted receive the support and resources they need.
We are here. We are human beings. We're only here to support ourselves and maintain our families.
We won't stay quiet. Seeking employment is not a crime. Providing for those you love is not a crime.
