Protests in downtown Los Angeles have significantly impacted local businesses, as reduced foot traffic and curfews have led shops to close earlier. Roberto Recinos, an employee at It's Boba Time, noted a dramatic drop in sales amid the six days of protests, which included peaceful demonstrations and incidents of vandalism. Many local shopkeepers express support for the protest cause but are concerned about the negative effects on their livelihoods, including vandalism and reduced customer volume, complicating their responses to the current climate.
Many say they support the protests but note it's hurt business. The vandalism is another matter. The new curfew imposed around downtown has added another lay of complexity.
Recinos who comes from Mexican immigrants, said he'd had to be more careful going outside during the ICE raids. 'Even though I am lighter-skinned and am technically white passing, my mom is scared I could get detained,' he said.
