In January, wildfires caused significant disruptions to education, affecting over 725,000 students and damaging or destroying at least a dozen schools. Gov. Approximately 1,655 students were tracked across 16 districts, with the Los Angeles Unified School District losing substantial enrollment due to the Palisades fire, impacting several local charter and high schools significantly.

In total, these schools are home to more than 132,000 students. The Times' estimates are based on data through May 2025.
Officials at the charter school say the district lost 474 students after the Palisades fire.
