A recent heat wave hit Southern California, with temperatures soaring into the high 90s, prompting emergency rescues. In Orange County, 15 individuals faced heat-related challenges, with a significant incident involving 11 hikers in distress. Four hikers required rescue from the heat in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park. Riverside County saw nine rescues across various locations, including a dehydrated hiker at Big Bear Canyon Loop. Authorities advise caution during such extreme heat, emphasizing that only trained individuals should attempt challenging hikes in these conditions.
In Orange County, at least 15 people were rescued for heat-related issues throughout the day, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Thanh Nguyen.
Three of the hikers were affected by the heat, Nguyen said, including one who was airlifted from the area.
'Unless you've trained for heat and this tough terrain, we strongly encourage everyone to wait until it cools down,' Nguyen said.
In Riverside County, nine people were rescued in heat-related incidents.
